Lexington - The Tiffin Columbian boys and girls track and field teams competed Thursday night at the Division II Regional Prelims at Lexington High School, with several Tornado athletes turning in strong performances against some of the top competition in the region.
In finals competition, sophomore Tara Duffy placed 11th in the girls shot put with a throw of 33-7.50. Abby Lewis finished 10th in the high jump after clearing 4-8, while Carmen Lewis took 15th in the girls 3200-meter run with a time of 12:34.58.
Columbian also saw success in preliminary events, highlighted by freshman Caroline Newlove advancing to Friday’s finals in the girls 300-meter hurdles. Newlove posted a time of 46.81 to qualify seventh overall heading into the finals race.
On the boys side, Dashawn Russell narrowly missed qualifying for the finals in the 400-meter dash, finishing 10th overall with a time of 51.37.
The girls 4x200-meter relay team of Josie Kancler, Ava Newman, Abby Lewis, and Caroline Newlove finished 13th with a time of 1:47.91.
Duffy will return to competition on Friday as she joins Newlove in representing the Tornadoes during the regional finals session. Duffy is scheduled to compete in the girls discus finals, while Newlove will race in the 300 hurdles finals.
