Tiffin - Columbian Varsity Softball couldn't keep up with Calvert on Monday, falling 11-2 in a tough local matchup. Calvert set the tone early, jumping out to a quick five-run advantage in the bottom of the first inning and adding three more runs in the second frame. Another run in the third inning further extended their lead, creating a deficit that proved too large for the Tornadoes to overcome.
Columbian’s offense battled hard throughout the contest, racking up nine hits as a team. Breanna McNutt, Emma Daugherty, and Olyvia Steinmetz paced the Tornadoes' attack, each collecting a pair of hits. Daugherty was particularly effective at the plate, finishing the day 2-for-4 and driving in a run to lead the team in runs batted in.
Despite putting runners on base and threatening offensively, the Tornadoes struggled to find the timely hits needed to string together a major rally against Calvert's starting pitching, which racked up eight strikeouts over six innings of play.
