TRACK SENDS 3 TO REGIONALS, MANY TO FRIDAY'S DISTRICT FINALS

Track sends 3 to Regionals, many to Friday's District Finals

TIFFIN — Several TC Track athletes punched their tickets to next week’s regional meet while many others advanced through the preliminaries during the OHSAA Division II District Track and Field Meet at Tiffin Columbian High School.

Leading the way in the finals events for the Tornadoes was distance runner Carmen Lewis, who earned a regional berth with a third-place finish in the girls 3200-meter run in 11:53.08. Tara Duffy also secured a trip to regionals after placing fourth in the girls shot put with a throw of 33-6.4, while Abby Lewis advanced with a fourth-place finish in the girls high jump at 4-10.

The girls 4x800-meter relay team of Leah Weingart, Emma Musgrave, Genna Cleveland and Lily Allen added a sixth-place finish in 10:34.28.

In the preliminary running events, Columbian qualified a strong group of athletes for Friday’s finals. Izzy Thompson moved on in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.38, while Ava Newman qualified in the girls 100-meter dash in 13.48.

The girls 4x200 relay team of Josie Kancler, Newman, Abby Lewis and Caroline Newlove also advanced after posting a time of 1:49.41. The boys 4x200 relay squad of Johnny Bremyer, Dashawn Russell, Amar’e Legrant and Xavier Melick earned a finals berth in 1:32.26.

Columbian’s girls 4x100 relay team of Kancler, Lewis, Morgan Roach and Newman qualified in 52.12. Kennedy Wilhelm moved on in the girls 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.62, while Dashawn Russell advanced in the boys 400 in 50.92.

Caroline Newlove qualified in two events, advancing in the girls 300 hurdles with a time of 48.26 and the girls 200-meter dash in 26.93. Emma Musgrave earned a finals spot in the girls 800 in 2:50.24, while Xavier Melick (2:06.08) and Noah Townsend (2:12.74) both advanced in the boys 800-meter run.

The girls 4x400 relay team of Wilhelm, Musgrave, Cleveland and Sophia Miller qualified in 4:27.74, while the boys quartet of Lucas Smyser, Dashawn Russell, Amar’e Legrant and Xavier Melick advanced with a time of 3:31.42.

Finals competition is scheduled for Friday evening at Tiffin Columbian High School, with regional qualifying spots on the line.
