Fremont - The Tiffin Columbian boys tennis team put together a stellar performance on Friday night, capturing a second-place team finish at the highly competitive Fremont Ross Doubles Tournament. In a unique format where team standings were determined by the total number of games won across all four positions, the Tornadoes battled hard in every set to secure their runner-up spot.

Leading the charge for Columbian was the formidable duo of Dravyn Dicken and Brock Siesel at first doubles. The pair captured a first-place finish in their bracket, kickstarting their night with a dominant 10-3 victory over Sandusky’s Blake Ott and Brady Mullins. They followed that up with a flawless 10-0 shutout against Everett Hand and Caden Meyers of Oak Harbor. Although they dropped a razor-thin 10-8 battle to Fremont’s Charlie Kramer and Carson Lewis, their overwhelming game count secured them the top spot.

At third doubles, Grant Blonde and Brady Miller earned a hard-fought second-place finish. They opened with a 10-6 win over Sandusky’s Ashton Chapman and Zah Haas, cruised past Oak Harbor’s Jacob Frank and Layn Rosuluski 10-4, and fell just short in a thrilling 10-9 tiebreaker to Logan Wensinger and Casen Schwochow of Fremont.

Bentley Schoch and Lucas Widman mirrored that success at the fourth doubles spot, also finishing second. The duo earned identical 10-6 victories over Sandusky (Zeke Cutcher/Ian Stiner) and Oak Harbor (Jack Barron/Kale John) before dropping a 10-4 decision to Fremont's Chase Culbertson and Maden DeWalt.

Rounding out the scoring for the Tornadoes was the second doubles tandem of Parker Nye and Liam Randell, who placed third in their division. Nye and Randell played exceptionally well, defeating Sandusky’s Liam Chamberlain and Ishan Chopra 10-5, and Oak Harbor's Aidan Boss and Adam Kurtz 10-4, before falling 10-3 to Fremont’s Jackson Swinehart and Brandon Fry.

While the second-place team trophy caps off a fantastic team effort, postseason play is far from over for Columbian. First doubles champions Brock Siesel and Dravyn Dicken will look to carry their incredible momentum forward as they advance to the district tournament on Wednesday.
