Fremont - The Columbian Tornadoes jumped out to an early lead but could not hold off a late rally, falling 5-3 to the Fremont Ross Little Giants on Friday.

Columbian wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning, using a pair of singles to generate the game’s first run. Emma Daugherty delivered the key hit, singling home a run to put the Tornadoes in front.

Columbian added to its lead in the second inning when Elyssia Aller drove in a run with a groundout, helping the Tornadoes build a 3-0 advantage.

Fremont Ross battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the third, and the Little Giants took the lead for good in the fifth inning, scoring twice to pull ahead 5-3.

Camryn Haman got the start in the circle for Columbian, working three innings while allowing three runs and striking out two. Gabby Shock took over in relief and was charged with the loss.

Offensively, Emma Blott paced the Tornadoes with two hits in three at-bats from the number eight spot in the lineup. Maddy Richie, Daugherty, and Aller each drove in a run. Maizie Mellott added speed on the bases with two stolen bases.

Defensively, Columbian played a clean game without committing an error, with Richie leading the way in the field with seven defensive plays.
