Tiffin - Tiffin Columbian stayed within striking distance early but couldn't overcome a mid-game surge by Clyde, falling 9-5 on Thursday. Despite a resilient effort to tie the game in the second inning, the Tornadoes were unable to keep pace once the Fliers' offense regained the lead.
After Clyde jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first, Columbian took advantage of a defensive miscue in the bottom of the second to even the score. However, the momentum shifted back to the visitors in the fourth inning, as a combination of timely hitting and defensive errors allowed Clyde to pull away with a four-run frame.
Russel Fox started on the mound for the Tornadoes, battling through four and one-third innings and striking out four. At the plate, Fox helped his own cause with a two-hit performance, a feat matched by teammate Brady Renninger. Catcher Carter Everhart provided the primary offensive spark, driving in two runs to lead the team in RBIs.
The Tornadoes' lineup combined for a steady afternoon of contact, but they were unable to bridge the gap late in the game.
