Tiffin - Varsity Softball outlasted Seneca East in a high-scoring 19-12 slugfest on Tuesday, powered by an explosive 17-hit offensive performance. Emma Daugherty was the catalyst for the Tornadoes, driving in four runs on three hits, highlighted by a three-run home run to center field in the second inning and a triple in the fourth.
The game was a back-and-forth affair that saw Varsity Softball twice erase deficits with massive seven-run innings. After falling behind early, the Tornadoes surged ahead in the second frame and later reclaimed the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Maizie Mellott provided a crucial two-run double during that fourth-inning rally, while Corinne Plott matched Daugherty’s production with four RBIs of her own. Camryn Haman and Mellott also turned in three-hit performances, while Breanna McNutt and Olyvia Steinmetz contributed multiple hits to the lopsided total.
On the rubber, Gabby Shock provided vital relief pitching, throwing three and two-thirds innings and allowing only two hits to shut the door on Seneca East. Maizie Mellott started the contest, and the pitching staff benefited from a lineup that relentlessly pressured the defense.
TCSB then finished their rain delayed game from last Friday vs Sandusky. Despite out-hitting their opponent 13-11, Varsity Softball fell to Sandusky 14-5. Sandusky took an early lead in the first two innings and used aggressive base running, including six stolen bases, to maintain the advantage throughout the game.
The Tornadoes' offense was spread across the lineup, with Breanna McNutt, Emma Daugherty, Gabby Shock, and Camryn Haman each tallying two hits. Elyssia Aller provided a spark from the bottom of the order, leading the team with two runs batted in. On the mound, Shock pitched three and two-thirds innings and recorded four strikeouts, while the defense successfully turned a double play during the contest. Varsity Softball will look to capitalize on their high hit count as they move into their next matchup.
