FREMONT — The Columbian varsity tennis team faced a tough road challenge Monday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Fremont Ross in a competitive dual match. The loss moves the Tornadoes to an 8-7 overall record on the season as they prepare for a quick turnaround with a trip to Bucyrus scheduled for Tuesday.

Brock Siesel provided the lone victory for the varsity squad at second singles. Siesel showcased consistency and poise in his match against Jackson Swinehart, securing a straight-sets win with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Despite the team outcome, Siesel’s performance was a bright spot in the lineup.

In other singles action, Dravyn Dicken battled at the number one spot but ultimately fell to Fremont’s Charlie Kramer 6-4, 6-1. At third singles, Grant Blonde was defeated by Carson Lewis, who took the match 6-1, 6-1.

The doubles courts saw tightly contested sets but ultimately went in favor of the home team. At first doubles, the duo of Liam Randell and Parker Nye pushed their opponents, Brandon Fry and Logan Wensinger, before falling 6-4, 7-5. The second doubles pairing of Brady Miller and Bentley Schoch also faced a stiff challenge, dropping their match to Chase Culbertson and Casen Schwochow 6-3, 6-2.

While the varsity side struggled to find footing, the junior varsity ranks saw significant success with several winning pairs. The tandems of Carson Hayes and Austin King, Jack Dell and Ian Cortez, and the duo of Carson Hayes and Skyler Helmstetter all emerged victorious in their respective matches, showing promise for the program’s depth.

Columbian looks to bounce back immediately as they travel to face Bucyrus tomorrow, seeking to push their record back further above the .500 mark.
