Toledo - Columbian's track and field team put up a spirited fight at the Nancy Erme Relays at Whitmer High School, finishing sixth overall in a dense field of fifteen competitive programs. The Tornadoes finished the day with 65 points, placing them directly ahead of Sylvania Northview and just behind the host team, Whitmer. The team's balanced performance across both track and field events allowed them to stay competitive with the top-tier schools throughout the meet.
The highlight of the day belonged to the Sprint Medley Relay team. In a display of pure speed and coordination, Josie Kancler, Abby Lewis, Ava Newman, and Caroline Newlove surged past the competition to claim first place with a time of 1:55.38. Newlove was a workhorse for Columbian, complementing her gold medal run with a third-place finish in the 300m Hurdles (48.68) and contributing to scoring efforts in the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.
In the field events, Tara Duffy provided a significant scoring punch. Duffy secured a silver medal in the Shot Put with a mark of 32-10 and returned to the circle to take fifth in the Discus with a throw of 110-1.5. The vertical jumps also yielded points for the Tornadoes, as Ava Newman placed sixth in the Pole Vault at 8-6, while Maddie Hardina cleared 8-0 to finish eighth.
The distance crew showed remarkable grit, with Emma Musgrave (800m), Carmen Lewis (1600m), and Maddie Kelley (3200m) all grinding out sixth-place finishes in their respective individual races. That same endurance was on display in the relay events, where Columbian took fifth place in the 4x400, 4x800, and the Distance Medley Relay. Additional points were secured by Izzy Thompson, who took seventh in the 100m Hurdles, and the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams, ensuring a strong sixth-place finish for the Tornadoes in the final standings.
