BELLEVUE — The Columbian junior varsity baseball team faced a tough road environment on Wednesday, falling 14-0 in a contest where the hosts controlled the momentum from the start.
Despite the final score, Columbian’s offense managed to put runners on base throughout the afternoon. Carter Everhart, Russel Fox, Ayden Yoshimoto, and Brady Renninger each tallied a hit for the Tornadoes, but the team was unable to crack the scoreboard against a disciplined Bellevue defense that played error-free baseball.
On the mound, Max Hoyda earned the start for Columbian. Hoyda struck out two batters and battled through a difficult second inning where defensive miscues extended the frame. Of the ten runs charged during his outing, only four were earned, as the Tornadoes struggled to contain a Bellevue run game that accounted for 16 stolen bases.
Columbian showed discipline of their own in the batters' box, drawing two walks to complement their four hits, but they couldn't find the timely hit needed to break the shutout.
The junior varsity squad will look to shake off the road loss and tighten up the defense as they prepare to travel again this Friday for a matchup against Norwalk.
