Tiffin - Despite a collection of standout individual performances, the Columbian boys track and field team fell to Perkins on Tuesday by a final score of 73-59. While the Pirates took the team victory, the Tornadoes dominated several key events on the track, particularly in the sprints and middle-distance races.

Jeremiah Dickerson was a force to be reckoned with, sweeping the short sprints. Dickerson claimed first place in both the 100m (11.02) and the 200m (22.18). The Tornadoes' success in the sprints continued in the 400m, where Dashawn Russell took the top spot in 52.45, followed closely by teammate Amar’e Legrant in second.

The distance crew also put up big numbers for Columbian. Xavier Melick secured two individual wins, taking first in the 800m (2:07.91) and the 1600m (5:09.16). In the 3200m, Marcelino Gallardo led a one-two finish for the Tornadoes, winning in 10:55.57, just ahead of teammate Owen Hoyda. Titan Neuman also added a victory to the tally, crossing the line first in the 300m hurdles with a time of 45.42.

In relay action, the 4x400m team of Dickerson, Russell, Legrant, and Melick outpaced the competition to take first place in 3:37.85. The 4x100m and 4x200m squads, both featuring Neuman, Jakobi Jackson, Lukas Smyser, and Dazarius Russell, earned second-place finishes.

Columbian’s field event athletes also chipped in valuable points. Draven Steele took second in the discus with a throw of 143-06, and Drew Newman earned second in the pole vault, clearing 9-6. Dazarius Russell and Jakobi Jackson both notched third-place finishes in the long jump and high jump, respectively.

While the team score favored Perkins, the Tornadoes' ability to capture the top spot in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m, 3200m, and 300m hurdles highlighted a powerful evening on the track.
