Tiffin - The Columbian girls track and field team put on a dominant display Tuesday evening, overwhelming Perkins with a final score of 98-38. The Tornadoes captured first-place finishes in nearly every event, showcasing incredible depth across the sprints, distance races, hurdles, and field events.
The sprint crew was led by Caroline Newlove and Kennedy Wilhelm. Newlove secured a pair of victories in the 200m (27.35) and the 400m (1:00.82), while Wilhelm took the top spot in the 100m with a time of 13.57. Morgan Roach added to the point total with a second-place finish in the 100m.
Columbian’s distance runners were equally impressive, sweeping the top spots in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Carmen Lewis took the 800m (2:34.32), Maddie Kelly won the 1600m (5:57.44), and Gabby Homan cruised to a win in the 3200m (13:58.03). Lily Allen proved to be a workhorse for the Tornadoes, earning podium finishes in all three distance events.
In the hurdles, Izzy Thompson was unstoppable, sweeping both the 100m hurdles (17.32) and the 300m hurdles (53.81). Korryn Potts provided strong support with a second-place finish in the 300m hurdles and a third-place finish in the 100m hurdles.
The Tornadoes also flexed their muscle in the relays, winning the 4x100m (Josie Kancler, Abby Lewis, Morgan Roach, Ava Newman), the 4x400m (Emma Musgrave, Carmen Lewis, Kennedy Wilhelm, Genna Cleveland), and the 4x800m (Leah Weingart, Chloe Heyman, Gracyn Whitmer, Aubrey Myers). The 4x200m team added a second-place finish to the tally.
Columbian’s success translated directly to the field events as well. Abby Lewis cleared 4-8 to win the high jump, while Ava Newman took first in the pole vault at 8-0. In the long jump, Sophia Miller edged out teammate Korryn Potts for the top spot with a leap of 14-8.50.
With first-place finishes in 15 of the 17 events, the Tornadoes move forward with significant momentum after a comprehensive team victory.
