Tiffin - Tiffin Columbian put on a dominant display at home Thursday, sweeping Perkins 5-0 to improve their season record to 7-4. The victory keeps the Tornadoes in a strong position within the conference, moving them to a 5-3 mark in SBC play.
The singles courts set the tone for the afternoon. At 1st singles, Dravyn Dicken handled Aaron Benkirane in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3. Brock Siesel was even more efficient at 2nd singles, delivering a "double bagel" 6-0, 6-0 victory over Shivan Brunning O'Malley. Parker Nye rounded out the singles sweep at the third spot via forfeit.
Columbian’s doubles teams mirrored that success, though they had to fight through a marathon at the top spot. The 1st doubles tandem of Liam Randell and Grant Blonde outlasted Preston Miller and Nathan Reynolds in a three-set thriller, taking the match 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. At 2nd doubles, Brady Miller and Jarrett Jaeck secured the clean sheet for the Tornadoes with a comfortable 6-3, 6-0 win over Anders VanNess and Logan Cooley.
With the momentum of a sweep behind them, Columbian now prepares for one of the biggest dates on the schedule. The Tornadoes will head to Norwalk this Saturday to compete in the SBC Tournament.
