Tiffin - Columbian Varsity Softball fell to Clyde 22-2 on Friday despite a big day at the plate from Maizie Mellott, who hit two home runs and drove in both Tornadoes runs.

Clyde jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning, using a pair of singles to score twice. Mellott answered in the bottom half of the inning, launching a solo home run to center field to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Clyde extended the lead in the second and then broke the game open with a 10-run third inning. The visitors added six more runs in the fourth to take control.

Mellott added her second home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, a solo shot to left field for Columbian’s final run.

Camryn Haman took the loss for Columbian, striking out four over two innings of work. Emma Daugherty, Mellott, and Olyvia Steinmetz each collected two hits to lead the Tornadoes offensively.

Columbian will return to action Tuesday when the Tornadoes host New Riegel.
