Clyde - Columbian JV Baseball came up just short Friday, falling 2-1 to Clyde in a tightly contested pitchers’ duel.
Max Hoyda turned in a strong performance on the mound for Columbian, recording 15 outs over five innings. The right-hander struck out 11 batters while allowing four hits and two runs, and walked three.
Columbian broke through first in the top of the fourth inning. Brady Renninger delivered a single following a seven-pitch at-bat to drive in the Tornadoes’ lone run and give Columbian a 1-0 lead.
Clyde answered in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good. A groundout brought in the tying run, and an error allowed the go-ahead run to score, making it 2-1.
Renninger led Columbian with one RBI, finishing 1-for-3 at the plate. RJ Kelley, Blake Rhodes, Renninger, and Hoyda each recorded one hit. Rhodes added two stolen bases as Columbian JV Baseball was aggressive on the base paths, swiping four bases in the game. Columbian also turned one double play defensively.
Columbian JV Baseball will return to action Monday when the Tornadoes host Van Buren.
