TIFFIN – It was a challenging Monday afternoon for Varsity Softball, as the team fell 14-1 to a high-powered Madison Comprehensive lineup. Despite an early lead and a steady presence at the plate from the top of the order, the Tornadoes couldn't stem a late-game surge by the visitors.

The Tornadoes jumped out to a promising start in the bottom of the first inning. After generating early traffic on the basepaths, Emma Daugherty put the team on the board with a productive ground out, giving Columbian an early 1-0 advantage.

Camryn Haman provided a consistent spark for the offense throughout the day, finishing as the team's hits leader with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. In total, the Tornadoes collected five hits against a tough opposing starter, but they struggled to find the timely hit needed to cut into the Madison lead as the game progressed.

Defensively, the Tornadoes showed flashes of sharp play, highlighted by a well-executed double play that helped stall a Madison threat. Maizie Mellott earned the start in the circle, striking out two over three innings of work. The game remained within reach until the sixth inning, when a flurry of hits and a home run allowed the visitors to pull away.

Varsity Softball will look to put this one behind them quickly as they hit the road for a quick turnaround. The team travels to Van Buren tomorrow, Tuesday, for their next non-conference matchup.
