BELLEVUE – The Tiffin Columbian Tornadoes showed a sharp eye at the plate and defensive grit on Friday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a middle-inning surge as they fell 5-2 to Bellevue.

The Tornadoes manufactured their offense through discipline rather than power, amassing six walks throughout the contest. Despite the loss, the game featured several bright spots for Tiffin, particularly in the relief pitching and leadoff hitting departments.

After falling behind 2-0 early, Columbian found their rhythm in the top of the third inning. Taking advantage of several free passes, Conner Reese drew a walk to drive in a run, and Kael Lawrence followed with a productive ground out to tie the game at 2-2.

Reese and Johnny Bremyer were a constant presence on the basepaths, leading the team with two walks each.

A major highlight for the Tornadoes was the performance of Jaxson Little. Entering the game in relief, the lefty was dominant over four innings of work. Little surrendered zero earned runs and allowed only three hits while striking out six and walking just two.

Little also catalyzed the offense from the leadoff position, accounting for two of the team's three hits on the day with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate.

The Tornadoes' defense managed to keep the game within reach by executing two double plays, snuffing out Bellevue threats and providing crucial support for their pitching staff.

Jamison Woessner took the loss for Columbian, pitching two innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out one.

Columbian will look to turn the page quickly as they return home. The Tornadoes are scheduled to host Madison Comprehensive on Monday, where they will look to get back into the win column.
