Tiffin - Perkins scored five runs in the opening inning and never looked back, defeating Columbian 8-2 on Wednesday in the SBC Lake Division opener.

Perkins took advantage of early opportunities in the first. B. Parker and K. Koch each drew walks before Binette grounded into a double play that still brought in a run. Schweinfurth followed with an RBI single down the left-field line, and C. Koch added another run-scoring single to build a quick lead.

Perkins extended the advantage in the second inning with help from a Columbian error and another single.

Blake Gaulden took the loss for Columbian, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits over two innings while striking out three and walking three. Kason Daily provided strong relief, tossing five innings and allowing just two hits with no runs, striking out three and walking one.

Columbian was limited offensively but received RBI from Jaxson Little and Kael Lawrence. Jayce Arias led the Tornadoes at the plate, going 2-for-4. Columbian also showed patience, drawing seven walks, with Gaulden and Jamison Woessner collecting two each. The Tornadoes turned one double play defensively.

Columbian returns to action Thursday with a road game at Bellevue.
