CASTALIA — The Tiffin Columbian Boys Track team turned in a competitive performance Saturday, finishing sixth at the Polar Bear Relays hosted by Margaretta with 48 points.

Perrysburg claimed the team title with 105 points, followed by Margaretta (81) and Lakota (70).

Columbian was paced by several strong relay and field event performances, including a pair of runner-up finishes. The 4x1600 relay team of Marcelino Gallardo, Xavier Melick, Conner Dukeshire and Owen Hoyda placed second in 20:45.46, while the 4x400 relay team of Dashawn Russell, Xavier Melick, Lukas Smyser and Amar’e Legrant also earned runner-up honors in 3:35.26. The pole vault duo of Drew Newman and Vinnie Busdeker added a tie for second place.

The Tornadoes added multiple fourth-place finishes, including the 4x200 relay (Jeremiah Dickerson, Dashawn Russell, Dazarius Russell, Amar’e Legrant) in 1:34.88, the 4x100 relay (Dickerson, Dashawn Russell, Legrant, Lukas Smyser) in 44.93, and the distance medley relay (Owen Hoyda, Jeremiah Dickerson, Conner Dukeshire, Gallardo) in 12:24.64.

Additional scoring efforts included a fifth-place finish in the 800 sprint medley relay (Titan Neuman, Jakobi Jackson, Bishop Taylor, Dazarius Russell) in 1:45.65, sixth in the high jump relay (Taylor, Neuman, Jackson), seventh in the long jump relay (Dazarius Russell, Drew Newman, Vinnie Busdeker), and seventh in the 4x800 relay (Nathan Gaietto, Landon Hinke, Brock Arebaugh, Chris Edwards) in 10:29.56.

Columbian also placed eighth in both throwing events, with the shot put team of Draven Steele, Mason Roszman and Kadyn Robertson and the discus team of Steele, Roszman and Carson Myers rounding out the scoring.
