Huron - Columbian Varsity Baseball fell 7-3 on the road Friday, dropping to 0-2 on the season despite an early lead and a late push to tie the game.
Columbian struck first in the top of the opening inning, using a pair of singles to manufacture a run. Jamison Woessner delivered the key hit, driving in a run to give the Tornadoes a 1-0 advantage.
The Tornadoes maintained control early before the game shifted in the middle innings. After falling behind, Columbian answered in the sixth, as Conner Reese ripped a double down the left field line to plate a run and knot the score at 3-3.
The game slipped away in the bottom of the sixth, as the opposition capitalized to score four runs and take control for good.
Blake Gaulden started on the mound for Columbian, pitching 3 2/3 innings while allowing two runs on three hits, striking out six and walking three. Braden Egbert took the loss in relief, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits over one inning, with one strikeout.
Jaxson Little led the Tornadoes at the plate with two hits in four at-bats. Reese and Woessner each drove in a run, while Ethan Wilcox added speed on the bases with two stolen bases. Columbian was aggressive on the basepaths, totaling four stolen bases, and also turned a double play defensively.
Columbian will look to bounce back Saturday when it travels to Lexington.
