CLYDE — Tiffin Columbian Boys Track used its sprint speed, relay victories and strong field-event performances to earn a 59-59 tie with Clyde in a boys track and field dual meet Wednesday.
Freshman Jeremiah Dickerson led the way for the Tornadoes. Dickerson won the 100-meter dash in 11.48 seconds, placed second in the 200 in 22.94 and later ran on Columbian’s winning 4x100 relay team. Dickerson teamed with Amar’e LeGrant, Jakobi Jackson and Mason Burkett to win the 4x100 in 45.74.
Columbian also got a victory from Xavier Melick in the 400-meter dash. Melick crossed first in 53.77.
In the distance races, Conner Dukeshire led the way by winning the 3200-meter run in 11:04.96. Marcelino Gallardo added a second-place finish in the 3200 and also placed third in the 1600.
The Tornadoes closed the running events with another relay victory in the 4x400. Dazarias Russell, Dashawn Russell, Melick and LeGrant combined to win in 3:41.27.
Draven Steele swept the throwing events for Columbian, winning the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 1 1/2 inches and the discus with a mark of 130-2. The Tornadoes also got a third-place finish in the discus from Mason Roszman.
In the jumps, Drew Newman won the pole vault by clearing 9-6, while teammate Vincenzo Busdeker finished second at 9-0. Jakobi Jackson added a second-place finish in the high jump, and Bishop Taylor placed third.
