Girls Track Defeats Clyde 78-46 Behind Balanced Effort

Clyde - The Columbian High School girls track and field team earned a convincing 78-46 victory over Clyde, showcasing its depth and versatility with an impressive collection of performances across running and field events.

Columbian found success early in the sprints, as Abby Lewis turned in a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash. The Tornadoes also saw strong efforts from Kennedy Wilhelm and Morgan Roach, who placed third and fifth, respectively, highlighting the team’s sprint depth.

In the 200 meters, Caroline Newlove led the way for Columbian with a first-place finish in 27.45, while Wilhelm added another solid performance with a fourth-place showing.

The 400 meters saw Emma Musgrave take top honors in 1:07.40, continuing her strong season.

Columbian’s distance crew dominated the meet. Carmen Lewis swept both the 800 meters (2:37.46) and 1600 meters (5:41.48), while teammate Maddie Kelley captured the 3200-meter title in 13:43.23.

The hurdles also produced standout efforts, as Izzy Thompson claimed the 100-meter hurdles title in 17.83. Korryn Potts and Leah Weingart added solid performances, with Weingart later placing among the top competitors in the 300 hurdles.

Columbian’s relay teams were equally effective. The Tornadoes captured the 4x200 relay title with Josie Kancler, Ava Newman, Korryn Potts, and Kennedy Wilhelm, finishing in 1:57.70. They also placed second in the 4x100 relay behind a strong effort from Josie Kancler, Abby Lewis, Morgan Roach, and Ava Newman (53.73).

In longer relays, Columbian added a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay with Kennedy Wilhelm, Emma Musgrave, Gracyn Whitmer, and Korryn Potts (4:41.32), and earned a victory in the 4x800 relay as Emma Musgrave, Jenna Cleveland, Makenzie Felske, and Gracyn Whitmer combined to run 11:20.81.

In the field events, Tara Duffy delivered a dominant showing, winning both the shot put (31-0) and discus (111-9). Caroline Lewis added a runner-up finish in the shot put and placed third in the discus.

The high jump was a highlight event for Columbian, as Abby Lewis, Nella Hainrich, and Josie Kancler all cleared 4-6 to share first place in a three-way tie.

In the pole vault, Ava Newman secured a runner-up finish, adding to Columbian’s strong overall performance in the field.

With wins across sprints, distance races, relays, and field events, Columbian demonstrated a well-rounded team effort in the decisive win.
