ASHLAND — Russel Fox delivered a big day at the plate to lead Columbian JV to an 11-6 victory over Ashland on Friday.
Fox went 3-for-4 with a double and two singles, while also driving in three runs. RJ Kelley matched that RBI total, helping power a Columbian offense that finished with nine hits and showed strong plate discipline with 13 walks.
Ashland struck first in the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead on a bases-loaded walk. Columbian answered in the second when Kelley singled home two runs to give the Tornadoes a 2-1 advantage.
The Arrows responded in the third, reclaiming a 4-2 lead behind an RBI walk from Maddox Mager and a two-run triple by Dominic Amato.
Columbian battled back to tie the game in the fifth inning. Fox singled, Carter Everhart doubled, and Ayden Yoshimoto added an RBI groundout to even the score.
The Tornadoes then took control in the sixth, erupting for five runs on four hits. Fox delivered the key blow with a two-run double as Columbian surged ahead for good.
On the mound, Max Hoyda started for Columbian, allowing four runs over three innings. Jackson Hohman earned the win in relief, giving up two runs over four innings while working around traffic on the bases.
Columbian was aggressive on the basepaths, stealing 11 bases in the game. Yoshimoto, Brady Renninger, and Fox each recorded multiple steals, while Blake Rhodes and Renninger drew three walks apiece.
Ashland collected 14 hits in the loss, led by Amato, who went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate. Bryant and Walker Jarvis also had multiple hits, while the Arrows matched Columbian’s aggressiveness with 10 stolen bases.
Columbian JV returns to action Thursday with a road game at Ross.
