ASHLAND — The Columbian Tornadoes outhit Ashland on Saturday, but a big early deficit proved too much to overcome in an 8-7 loss to the Arrows.

Columbian finished with eight hits to Ashland’s six, led by Johnny Bremyer, Jaxson Little, and Jamison Woessner, who each recorded two hits. Bremyer and Woessner also drove in three runs apiece to pace the Tornadoes offensively.

Columbian struck first in the opening inning when Woessner delivered an RBI single. Ashland answered quickly, tying the game 1-1 on a sacrifice fly by Trent Summers in the bottom half.

The game turned in the second inning when Ashland erupted for five runs on three hits to take control. A key error in the inning allowed two runs to score as the Arrows built a 6-1 advantage. Ashland added two more runs in the third on a triple by Jacob Bryant and a double from Tanner Wolfe, stretching the lead to 8-2.

Columbian showed resilience, chipping away at the deficit after falling behind by six runs. The Tornadoes used a combination of timely hitting—including a double, a single, and a hit-by-pitch—to close the gap, but ultimately came up just short.

Blake Gaulden took the loss for Columbian, allowing six runs (one earned) over 1 2/3 innings. Little provided a strong effort in relief, striking out seven over four innings while allowing two runs.

Bryant earned the win for Ashland, striking out six over three innings of work.

Ashland was led offensively by Summers, who drove in three runs, while Wolfe collected two hits from the leadoff spot. The Arrows also showed patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and playing error-free defense.

Columbian (0-1) will look to bounce back Thursday when it travels to Fremont Ross for its next game.
