Strong Hitting Not Enough As Columbian Varsity Tornadoes Falls To Port Clinton
Columbian Tornadoes fell 15-6 to Port Clinton on Wednesday despite out-hitting them nine to six. Emma Daugherty, Maizie Mellott, and Breanna McNutt each collected two hits for Columbian Varsity Tornadoes.
The Tornadoes were the first to get on the board in the first when Maizie Mellott doubled, scoring one run. Port Clinton took the lead in the bottom of the second. Ellie Orris grounded out, scoring one run, to give Port Clinton the advantage, 2-1.
TC took the lead, 4-2, in the top of the third thanks to doubles by Olyvia Steinmetz, and Breanna McNutt. Port Clinton tied the game up in the bottom of the third thanks to two wild pitches. Port Clinton tied the game at four on an error.
In the bottom of the fourth, PC broke up the tie when Bella Belden singled, scoring two runs. Then a double by Gabby Howard followed to extend the lead to 7-4.
PC scored seven runs on one hit in the bottom of the sixth inning. A wild pitch scored one run, an error scored two runs, Kyla Buchman drew a walk, scoring one run, Alexis Miller drew a walk, scoring one run, and Marissa Frohne drew a walk, scoring one run.
Marissa Frohne earned the win for Port Clinton. The starter surrendered nine hits and six runs (five earned) over six innings, striking out nine and walking one. Olyvia Steinmetz took the loss for Columbian Varsity Tornadoes. The pitcher went one inning, giving up four runs on four hits, striking out none and walking four. Gabby Shock opened the game for Columbian Varsity Tornadoes. The starter allowed one hit and four runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking seven.
Breanna McNutt led theTornadoes with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Columbian Varsity Tornadoes turned one double play in the game.
