The TC Wrestling team turned in a strong showing Saturday at the SBC Championships hosted by Norwalk High School, finishing fifth overall with 54.5 team points and advancing two wrestlers to the championship finals.
Leading the way for TC was 144-pounder Drew Aigler, who compiled a 3-1 record on the day to earn a runner-up finish. Aigler opened his tournament with a dominant fall in 53 seconds over Nathanial Chafin of Gibsonburg, then pinned Ky'Saivon Hunter of Sandusky in 3:53. In the quarterfinals, he secured an 8-3 decision over Nolan Hartman of Bellevue to punch his ticket to the finals. Aigler’s impressive run came to an end against Michael Gessner of Clyde, who claimed the title with a 21-5 victory.
At 215 pounds, Mason Garno also brought home a second-place medal with a 2-1 performance. Garno pinned Maxwell Muise of Huron in 2:40 and edged Bailey Jendrzejak of Woodmore in a tight 6-5 semifinal decision. In the championship match, Garno battled DeShawn Harper of Perkins but came up just short in another narrow 6-5 decision to finish as runner-up.
Vinnie Busdeker placed sixth at 138 pounds, finishing the tournament with a 3-3 record. He opened with a pin of Cameron Hoog of Sandusky in 1:52 before falling to Wyatt Thieroff of Woodmore. Busdeker rebounded with a win by default over Max Griffin of Calvert and a commanding 19-2 technical fall against Kamden Horvath of Edison. He dropped his final two matches to Jaycion Everett of Perkins and Aidan Greenslade of Clyde to secure sixth place.
At 113 pounds, Austen Henney went 0-2, falling to Blake Andres of Clyde and Danta Fabrizio of Calvert. Thomas Toller (150) also went 0-2, dropping matches to Nathan Goshe of Calvert and Ban Marett of Norwalk. Gavin Benfer (190) competed hard but was eliminated after losses to Michael Seeger of Woodmore and Donavin Wingert of Sandusky.
The Boys will be competing in the Division 2 Sectional Championships next Saturday at Clyde.
